To set up Outlook 2002 (Windows, Microsoft Office XP) to send and receive email…follow the steps below.
NOTE! When setting up Outlook 2002 (or any mail client), you will need the following information;
– E-mail address:
– Incoming (POP3) mail server:
– Outgoing (SMTP) mail server:
– Account Name (Username):
You can look up the settings for your e-mail here:
1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
2. From the “Tools” menu, choose “E-Mail Accounts”.
3. Select “Add a new e-mail account”. Click the “Next” button.
4. Select “POP3”. Click the “Next” button.
5. In the “Your Name” field, type your name.
6. In the “E-mail Address” field, type your full email address
7. In the “Incoming mail server (POP3)” field, type your Incoming mail server name
8. In the “Outgoing mail server (SMTP)” field, type your Outgoing mail server name
9. In the User Name field, type your full email address as the mail account username
10. In the Password field, type your email password. This is case sensitive. DO NOT check the box that says “Log on using Secure Password Authentication.
11. Click on the “More Settings” button
12. Click on the “Advanced” tab
13. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port to 587
14. Click on the “Outgoing Server” tab
15. Check the box labeled “My server requires authentication” and make sure it’s set to “Use same settings as incoming mail server” and then click “OK”
16. . Click the “Next” button.
12. Click the Finish button.
Additional E-mail Account configurations in Outlook 2002/2003
In Outlook you may check and maintain multiple Email accounts in multiple locations. You can use these accounts to check mail at other locations (ISP’s) or add additional identities or accounts to respond to mail “as” another identity ….as well as:
• Specify whether an account is included when sending/receiving mail.
• Specify whether mail should be sent, received, or both, from an account.
• Specify how often sent/receive commands occur.
• Specify whether attachments should be downloaded.
• Specify size limits on messages to be downloaded.
• Specify folders to include when sending/receiving.
• Specify downloading only headers for new messages.
• Specify settings for when Outlook is offline.
1. You maintain these multiple accounts in the “Send/Receive Groups” area in Outlook. For additional Account configurations and advanced setups in Outlook 2002/2003 got to Files-Send/Receive-Send/Receive Groups to view and edit accounts by “Send/Receive Groups”.
NOTES: Send and receive groups can contain any combination of Microsoft Exchange Server, POP3, IMAP, and HTTP accounts, along with accounts from any additional supported server types. Note: The options and rules displayed in the Send/Receive Settings dialog box will differ depending on the type of account you are working with.
2. The Send/Receive Groups dialog will display. Unless you have specified seperate Send/Receive Groups all accounts will be contained in the “All Accounts” group. Highlight the group you want to edit and review and Click Edit.
3. The Send/Receive Setting dialog will display allowing you to click and set the various settings for each account. For instance from this dialog you may toggle “off” an account for sending and receiving by un-checking the related box. Click “Account Properties” for additional settings on an account.
