What are my Headset Options For Voice Pilot and VVX phones?

Poly (aka: Polycom) enterprise telephones can be confusing when it comes to finding the right compatible headsets.   Attached below are the recommended wireless DECT and USB model headsets for the Poly® VVX 450 phones commonly deployed for E Street Voice Pilot®.   NOTE: Be sure to ask your E Street representative about your options and what you would like to go with for a headset.

For the most up-to-date headset options currently available be sure to see Poly’s compatibility lookup tool here:   https://compatibility.plantronics.com/deskphone

NOTE: E Street provides 1 hour of Tech Services installation for current E Street Voice Pilot approved headsets purchased through E Street. Contact your E Street representative to schedule your setup.

Top Mono USB Headset Options – (Note: no EHS is required on these headsets):

Since the Poly VVX 450 deskphone includes USB ports, you can skip EHS cables entirely by plugging a USB headset directly into the phone. Here are two popular mono options each from Poly and Jabra:

Poly (Plantronics) USB Mono

  1. Poly Blackwire 3210 (Mono USB)
    • An affordable, entry-level USB headset. Simple plug-and-play, inline call controls.
  2. Poly Blackwire 5210 (Mono USB)
    • A step up in comfort and audio quality, with a noise-canceling mic and padded headband/ear cushion.

Jabra USB Mono

  1. Jabra Evolve2 55 Mono (USB)
    • Modern design, good passive noise isolation, inline controls, and improved mic clarity.
  2. Jabra Evolve 40 Mono (USB)
    • Very popular wired USB headset, comfortable for extended calls, noise-canceling mic, and call control unit on the cable.

Choosing your headset – Is a USB Headset Better Than an EHS Wireless Headset?

It depends on your work style and priorities:

  • Wireless DECT (CS, Savi, Engage, Pro) is ideal for users who need to roam and answer calls away from their desk.
  • Wired USB is simpler, often less expensive, and literally “plug and play.” But you’ll be tethered unless you opt for a USB-based wireless (e.g., Bluetooth with a USB dongle).
  • Sound Quality is generally excellent in both scenarios, but DECT wireless can handle more distance than Bluetooth.
Bottom line: If your workflow demands walking around the office while on calls, an EHS-compatible wireless system is probably worth it. If you mainly sit at your desk and want a simple solution, a USB headset may be cheaper, easier, and just as clear (albeit without the freedom to wander).
