Domain Name Renewal Schedule and what to do if your domain is expired

In 2003 new changes were instituted by the domain name Registry for “.net” and “.com” domains.

The purpose of these changes were to prevent unwanted deletions and to make domain management more convenient for you. Although “approximate” as the actual timelines can vary by registrar…. the new schedule is listed below:

1. 60 days prior to a domain’s expiration date an email will be sent to the member handle notifying them of the domain’s pending expiration.

2. 30 days before a domain’s expiration date a second email will be sent to the member handle notifying them of the domain’s pending expiration.

3. Just prior to a domain’s expiration date a final email is sent to the administrative contact, email addresses notifying them of a domains impending expiration.

5. After expiration the domain will cease to function and enter its “Deletion” and “Redemption Grace Period” (RGP) Phases.

5. Anywhere from 1 – 2 months after expiration the domains are deleted.

NOTE: Once a name is in deletion and specifically its “Redemption Grace Period” (RGP)… the only way for us to get this name back is through the Registry at a cost of up to $250  (a fee imposed by the registry not E Street).

The diagram below displays the progression of a domain through the deletion process.  Contact E Street Support (support@estreet.com) if you have any questions.
